Coming Event: Silicon Valley Reinvents the Wheel—Monday, Oct. 1

Next Monday, Oct. 1, Silicon Valley will take a look at the state-of-the-art in automotive tech. The accelerating trends of autonomy, electrification and connected vehicles will be explored with speakers from auto companies, start-ups, universities and others. The event, the 10th Annual Silicon Valley Reinvents the Wheel presented by Western Automotive Journalists and the Autotech Council, will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California. Leading minds from Silicon Valley and beyond will gather to discuss the state-of-the-art

Thought leaders from Silicon Valley and around the world will be a part of a day of interactive discussions, vehicle displays, technology demonstrations and a “Science Fair” organized by the Autotech Council. Part of registration includes lunch from several local gourmet food trucks.  

Sven Beiker of Silicon Valley Mobility will provide an opening keynote for the day. He’ll be followed by, among others, the CTO of Lucid Motors, a new Silicon Valley car company. Dragos Maciuca, head of Ford Motor Company’s expanding Palo Alto Lab, Powell Kinney, CPO of Toyota Connected, George Hotz of comma.ai, Danny Shapiro of Nvidia, and many more.

Afternoon Sessions ^

In one of the afternoon sessions. I’ll be in conversation with Mollie D.Agostino, policy director of U.C. Davis’ Three Revolutions program, discussing some of the big questions about our mobility future. Specifically, we’ll be talking about whether coming electric, autonomous vehicles must also be shared vehicles in order to truly move forward environmentally and socially.

Other speakers at SVRtW 2018 include the Society of Automotive Engineers’ John Tintinalli, addressing the needs for education and standards as part of the automotive transformation.

The Autotech Council will present its Top 5 startups, who’ll give rapid-fire pitches on their technologies and business models.

We’ll make sure attendees are fed, too

Dan Sahar from Upstream will be discussing cybersecurity with Timothy Higgins of the Wall Street Journal. Dr. Jim Doty of A/Eye, a professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Stanford University School of Medicine, will be addressing “Making Sense of the Sensor & Applying Biomimicry to Autonomy.”

There will be additional speakers during this packed day, but in additional there will be vehicle displays and demonstrations from Ram, Ford, Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Lucid, Phantom Auto, Byton, Eyeris and more.

The program will end with a reception and a chance to interact with attendees and speakers to reflect and further discuss the day’s topics.
